Maria at the jewellery bench working on an engagement ring

I live in a cottage in the National Forest with my husband and our seven year old twins.

I started Maria Alicia Jewellery in 2013 after falling in love with this beautiful craft. Each piece is hand made from scratch using traditional methods and with passion and attention to detail. I am inspired by the world around me whether that’s walking in our beautiful National Forest, the Lakes, by the sea in Anglesey when visiting my parents or looking up at the night skies on a full moon.
Although often minimalist in design, my pieces have a bold aesthetic and are made to last. Whether purchasing a bespoke piece or a collection piece I make with the aim they should become future precious heirlooms for the next generations.

Sustainability is a huge part of my business and I re-cycle and re-purpose as often as I can.
I use recycled ‘eco’ silver and gold bullion and regularly re-model clients own gold into new pieces. I am pleased to say my recycled nugget studs are proving a very popular seller and made entirely from used/ broken precious metal jewellery bits. I am a bit of an eco warrior at home and am even more conscious now in the studio. My professional jewellery packaging is made using recycled card.

A history for design…

As a child my grandfather happily lectured me on minerals using microscopes, and we explored our night skies with the use of his garden observatory telescopes. I would wake in the early hours to him calling me outside to catch a clear glimpse of the moon or be late in for lunch due to asking to see just one more emerald micro-mount box!
This has inspired my designs and I often craft pieces using ancient heat techniques to create textures inspired by the moons surface. My minimalist designs and gemstones incorporate the shapes and array of colours found in our night skies.
